Description | The publication deals with the issue of concurrent intellectual giftedness and learning disability in secondary school and university students. Besides giving a general insight aimed at the issue of forming giftedness in the period of adolescence and early adulthood, it concentrates in particular on questions associated with successful overcoming of these students’ school disadvantage related to their learning disability. On particular examples of responses given by gifted students with the so-called twice exceptionality, it shows which factors and conditions can lead to successful compensation of their specific handicaps and simultaneously to the development of their gift and, vice versa, which facts can be risky in this process. Special attention is paid to compensation strategies used by these students, questions related to motivation, understanding and acceptance of twice exceptionality, but also the issue of emotional support of these students by their parents and teachers. |
