Description | The aim of the present work was to study the mechanical properties of ncTiC/a-C:Hcoating consisting of nanocrystalline titanium carbide embedded in amorphous (hydrogenated) carbon matrix. Combining the properties of hard TiC grains and the softer a-C:H matrix, mechanical properties can be tailored from superhard films with hardness reaching over 40 GPa and Young’s modulus higher than 300 GPa to softer wear resistant and low friction coatings. Magnetron sputtering of titanium target in acetylene containing atmosphere was used for ncTiC/a-C:H preparation. The aim of this work was to study the mechanical and tribological properties of ncTiC/a-C:H coating deposited on high speed steel substrate. Special focus was given on the analysis of the coating resistance against dynamic load under humid environment. The classification of nc-TiC/a-C:H coatings was performed using an impact tester in a dynamic mode and enabled us to predict the limit load causing the coating destruction under humid environment. |
