Description | Jaroslav Palliardi introduced the term ‚Moravian Painted Ware Culture‘ and presented a preliminary model of development within the culture (Palliardi 1897; 1914). His hypothesis was subsequently adopted by many researchers from neighbouring countries and was used as a basis for developing a relative chronology. New developments in the field in combination with ease of access to radiocarbon dating makes it possible to test the proposed relative chronology (Kuča et al. 2012). A preliminary comparison of Moravian Painted Ware Culture radiocarbon record with the relative chronology model indicates that this model may not adequately explain the differences on which the model was built so an alternative explanation may be needed. |
