Description | Acute postoperative pain is a major stressor (factor) influeneing hospitalization of each individual. On one hand there are medical possibilities allowing treatment of acute pain, on the other hand, the epidural analgesia methods are not commonly used, despite its undeniable effectiveness. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of postoperative pain treatment in patients with continuous epidural analgesia in the Jihlava Hospital during one year period. Method: To verify the effectiveness of treatment with continuous epidural analgesia the retrospective analysis of medical and nursing records of 277 patients were performed. Statistical data processing was performed using inductive statisties (Chi-square test) at a significance level alpha of 0.05. Results: We have verified the statistical dependence/relationship of documented subjective complications in relation to gender (p = 0.003). Men reported higher incidence of sensory disturbances of sensitivity and pain. With women higher incidence of hypotension was confirmed as well as increased incidence of nausea and weakness. There was found no correlation among the documented incidence of subjective symptoms and age (p = 0.750). In terms of mobilization there were differences in the mobilization of patients older than 65 years compared with younger, but these were not found to be statistically significant (p=0.242). What is positive that effeclive mobilization was documented in 70% regardless of patient s age or gender. |
