Description | Primary breast lymphoma (PBL) is a rare disease accounting for 0.5% of all breast malignancies. Breast lymphoma may present either as a palpable mass or as diffuse thickening of the breast. Axillary lymph nodes are often enlarged. Mammographic findings are nonspecific and the following should be considered: primary breast cancer, fibroadenoma, phyllodes tumour or metastatic disease. Breast leukemia is extremely rare. Patients with leukemic infiltration of breast usually are present with a palpable lesion that is generally well-circumscribed and rapidly enlarging. The lesion may be bilateral or multi-nodular simulating a fibroadenoma. Breast lymphoma and leukemia should be considered in the differential diagnosis of breast lumps of sudden onset, especially when there is a significant past history. |
