Description | Dealing with authentic texts and documents, drafting contracts, writing letters to clients, telephoning skills; these are some of the legal English skills that competent young lawyers should possess, as reflected in the answers provided by recent law graduates in a survey carried out last year at the Faculty of Law MU. The challenge faced by teachers of legal English, while working on the innovation of the course within the Impact project, was to incorporate all these pieces into a meaningful and well-balanced syllabus. This presentation shows how the journey progressed from the initial rough design, through the first drafts to the piloted parts of the innovated course. Putting the pieces into the puzzle was not an easy task but, as will be shown during the presentation, it turned out to be a satisfying experience that culminated in the preparation of a series of lessons that the teachers feel strong about and the students enjoy participating in. |
