Description | Anthropological investigation in this study was realized within the project „Physical activity in the Czech republic“. The sample included 449 men and 565 women measured during various public events, mostly in urban areas of South and Central Moravia between 2011-2012, and was divided into 6 age categories (from 18-29 years to 70+ years). The measurements included standing height, sitting height and arm span. The average male height computed from the averages of all 6 age categories was 177.4 cm, with relative sitting height 52.41 % and relative arm span 101.60 %. The same values in women were 165.1 cm, 53.15 % and 99.90 %. The youngest age category of men (n=142) reached average height 181.0 cm (median 180.7 cm), relative sitting height 52.63 % and relative arm span 101.46 %. In the same age category of women (n=137), the values were 168.8 cm (168.8 cm), 53.38 % and 99.23 %. The results indicate a continuation of the secular trend of body height in the Czech republic (from 180.2 cm and 167.3 cm in 18years old men and women measured during the 6th nationwide anthropological survey in 2001), although their information value is limited by the relatively small size of samples. |
