Description | In the 1960s the political scene in Czechoslovakia relaxed and editorial politics changed too. In the cultural sphere, this decade presented the most interesting part of this historical epoch. As for domestic crime novel production – high quality authors emerged to whom this genre brought an interesting challenge and a way to describe the social reality. At the same time the number of translated novels increased. The graphic design of the covers helped to wipe out differences between good and bad titles and genres by unifying the cover design, giving all titles the same level of artistic attention. Hence the top designers and illustrators then also often designed covers of crime novel series. The paper take the Smaragd series as an example. |
