Description | The main goal of this paper is to review the key structural trends within contemporary Czech literary field, foregrounding the perspective of fiction book publisher. I conceptualize the literary field as relatively autonomous, but integral part of cultural and media business as such. Analysing various discourses and social praxes of book publishers, I base my argumentation on five main trends: globalization, commercialization, homogenization, fragmentation and digitalization. I describe the basic factual and interpretative framework these imply and demonstrate the changes on many examples. The paper represents a separate output of my PhD thesis research, in which I investigate the logics and dynamics of Czech publishing field. The research design is built on Pierre Bourdieu’s reflexive sociology and qualitative methods of data analysis. |
