Description In this paper, the authors outlined the general aspects of protection of archaeological and cultural heritage in the Czech Republic. After classifying the different “levels” of protection, they described the development of the legislative protection in the Czech lands. The authors also focused on the contemporary regulation, i.e. especially the Czech Act on National Cultural Heritage. Explaining the basic principles on which this act is built, they also paid attention to several other laws concerning the matter. Last but not least, the authors pointed out the influence of international treaties to which the Czech Republic acceded. They mainly focused on the Valletta Treaty and the Convention concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
