| Description | The paper deals with the oldest history of the Franks, the main focus is to examine their origin. This issue is particularly discussed in two works: the so-called Chronicle of Fredegar and Liber Historiae Francorum. Little information can also be obtained in the older work by Gregory of Tours. Regarding the origin of the Franks, the question of the origin of the myth of Troy as the original homeland of the Franks is examined in more detail. Then it is focused on the emergence of the Merovingian dynasty, and lastly, several theories about the origin of the naming of this nation are outlined. |
