Description | Introduction: Multiple myeloma (MM) is a blood cancer patients, especially older than 65 years. With the advent of new drugs such as proteasome inhibitors and immunomodulatory drugs, there has been a significant change in patient survival. On the other hand, however, significantly increases the incidence of extramedullary relapse (EM) of these patients, which has a very poor prognosis. EM relapse is caused by mutations in myeloma cells that allow survival of cells outside the bone marrow. microRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding single stranded RNA molecules that are very stable and readily detectable. They are located in body fluids such as serum, plasma, urine and others. Aim: To determine whether circulating serum miRNAs can serve as a marker EM in patients with MM. |
