Description | The chapter provides a methodological analysis of the Cleinias Decree (ca. 447/6-425/4 B.C.), which is one of the most important epigraphic sources for the reconstruction of the process of collection of the foros, the tribute the members of the Delian League had to pay to the common treasury. Its aim is to assess the value of epigraphic sources compared to narrative sources and to highlight the former's importance for the study of the Athenian arche and the means of control of the Athenian allies. |
