| Description | Kenyan runners dominate major long-distance running competition. One of the factors of their success is a different foot-strike pattern. This paper not only focuses on the cinematic pattern but also reviews other - cultural - factors which, however, are closely associated with cinematics). These factors are related to an overall unsatisfactory economical situation which puts sporting success on a different level of existential motivation. Resulting running strategy and mechanics are different from the Euro-american running mechanincs. Foot-strike pattern comparison was made by assessing the contact surface between the runners foot and the ground. The assessment was performed via foot-print evaluation of a runner using the Kenyan-type and Euro-american running mechanics. The results confirm the existence of statistically significant differences and support the hypothesis of a different foot-strike pattern. |
