This topic has become largely discussed in media mainly using the discourse of moral panic. Many professionals used to ignore this health problem due to a lack of agreement on diagnostic criteria. This situation was changed in 2013, when American Psychiatric Association included Online Gaming Disorder into the appendix of the Fifth Revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The book aims at summarisation of actual knowledge, both empirical and theoretical, of behavioural addictions in relation to internet usage. Readers will learn about behavioural addictions, particularly those related the internet, how they can be diagnosed and treated and which internet users are at risk of developing symptoms of addictive behaviour. With the use of case studies and up-to-date data from the Czech Republic the book presents on selected online applications and activities which have the highest addictive potential: online games and virtual worlds, online gambling, pornography websites and online communications and social networking sites. |
