Description | Life Style and Health-Related Behavior of Czech Adults and Seniors This study presents partial results of an extensive research project called Health-Enhancing and Health-Threatening Behavior: Determinants, Models, and Consequences (GA13-19808S). The aim of the research is to map behavioral components related to health in adults and seniors and link them to selected personality traits. The study compares health-supportive behavior and life style of Czech adults and elderly citizens. The research sample consisted of 1498 respondents (69% women) between 20 and 93 years of age. The following instruments were used: the Health Behavior Scale (Dosedlová, Slováčková, Klimusová, 2013), Life Orientation Test – Revised, LOT-R (Scheier, Carver, & Bridges, 1994), Defensive Pessimism Questionnaire, DPQ (Norem, 2002), Mental Health Continuum, MHC-SF (Keyes, 2005), and Gordon Personal Profile, GPP-I (Gordon, 1953; Svoboda, 1999). The four age groups (20-35; 36-50; 51-65; >65) differ significantly in all health-related behavior factors with the exception of mental health maintaining. With increasing age, individuals tend to increase their healthy food intake, keep daily regimen and avoid addictive substances; however, the amount of physical activity decreases with age. |
