Description The first part of a two-volume work on the development of the state and law in our country was published as a part of the thematic series Legal History of the Lands of the Czech Crown. This first volume contains an analysis of the development of state and law issues within a broader historical and political context. The book is split into two consecutive parts. In the first part the authors briefly mention the theory of state formation, then look in detail at the development of the Moravian Empire, whose statehood has passed on to the Czech state. The authors then track the changes of the Czech state from the early periods of its existence until the revolutionary changes of 1848. In this part the authors mostly focus on the major state legal and constitutional institutions in the early periods of the Czech state, during the Estates Period as well as the period of Absolutism – a problematic period from the state legal point of view. The authors analyze the establishment and activities of the individual High Authorities, but mainly focus on the ruler and parliaments of that time – General Assembly, Land Assemblies (Landtags) and Regional Assemblies. Certainly, the stratification of society as an issue could not have been left out. There is a clear effort to form the Czech Crown by fixing personal and territorial aspects, as well as by international diplomatic efforts of Czech kings. The second part looks at the modern state from 1848 until the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1992. This part focuses on three main periods: Habsburg Monarchy, interwar Czechoslovakia and the period of socialism. Shorter chapters are dedicated to the period of Nazi occupation (1938 – 1945) and post-socialism period 1989 – 1992. The publication also contains rich visual material. The text of the publication comes to life thanks to illustrations from historical sources. This makes the publications attractive for those who are interested in the history of the Czech state.
