Description | Hantaviroses are the most common rodent-borne virus diseases of humans the Czech Republic, with an annual incidence of 0.02 cases per 100,000 population. Specific antibofies occur in c. 1% of inhabitants. Four hamtavirus species have been detected in this country: Puumala, Dobrava-Belgrade, Tula and Seewis - human disease cause the viruses Puumala (usually moderate nephropathia epidemica) and Dobrava-Belgrade (severe haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome). Aim of this review is to present an up-to-date survey of human pathogenic hantaviruses occurring in the Czech Republic, based on the reports published in the last 30 years, including their geographic distribution and description of clinical symptoms. The recent detection of Tula virus in an immunocompromised man in Ostrava region and late reports of Seoul hantavirus diseases in Europe emphasize potential emergence of the neglected hantavirus infections in near future. |
