Description | The paper focused on legal aspects of investigation of the Pisonian conspiracy against the Emperor Nero, which should have taken place in 65 AD. It examined the issue of legality of the Emperor's actions against the conspirators, and his potential excesses. The second part used especially numismatic sources for a detailed analysis of Nero's presentation of the suppression of the conspiracy in front of the public. Nero's self-presentation as an emperor who punishes justly was compared to the behaviour of other emperor's of the Principate in similar situations. |
