| Description | Assessment of consequences of Jan Evangelista Purkyně's (* December 17th, 1787 + July 28th, 1869) legacy has not changed in the course of historical development under various establishments. The reason consists in his personality, in his tireless, generalist research, which based fundamentals of various branches, in his vitality, humility, and humanism that were timeless and non-political. These facts became the reason, for which he has been included among personalities of the worldwide importance (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage). The focal point of the text lays in the period of life, which the prominent physician spent in Wroclaw. Seen from both the professional and private viewpoints, the Wroclaw period became the best period of his life: He succeeded in becoming a full professor in a time-honoured university and in establishing a family. No less important became the use of a Slavonic medical terminology, which he applied in his lectures for Slavonic speaking students. After having been called to the Charles-Ferdinand University of Prague in 1849, this enabled him, as one of the first professors, to practically implement the then really revolutionary law that is to give scholarly lectures in Czech. |
