Description | The paper deals with the history of teaching Serbian language at Masaryk University in Brno, Czechia. Serbian language was taught initially under the name Serbo-Croatian because of the conception of the common language of Serbs, Croats, Montenegrins and Muslims at that time. The independent study of Serbian language and literature began in the academic 1997/1998. It means, that Masaryk University in Brno is one of the few European universities where there is independent Serbian Studies and independent Croatian Studies. We see it today as correct and objective solution, but with regard to decreasing interest in nationally conceived Slavic philology we do not exclude in general that in the future the form of South Slavic philology at university can change. |
