Description | The ivory Diptych of Five Parts, deposited today in the cathedral treasury in Milan, occupies an exceptional position in the context of the Early Christian art. The article does not set its aim to merely subject the proposed hypotheses to critical thought. It is primarily an attempt to answer other questions such as the clarification of the artistic models, identifying the possible commissioner of the work, determining the reason for its creation as well as its art historical and cultural historical significance. |
