Description In 2006–2009 the South Moravian Region included relations with the Principality of Liechtenstein among its international contacts. The below analysis focuses on four processes, which characterized the development and cementing of mutual relations. It was primarily an initiative built up from below. First, the village Vranov u Brna developed contacts with the House of Liechtenstein. Secondly, the internalization of this theme took place across the political spectrum. Thirdly, the South Moravian Region consistently separated its interests and the conflicting agenda processed at the same time at the international level. It even attempted to facilitate relations between the representatives of the principality and the government and through its political contacts informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about its plans. The fourth aspect is the most important for this text. The contacts were made primarily with the members of the Liechtenstein family, who attended various events initially as private persons. Only in course of later meetings, the discussed agenda acquired business character. From history and memories the relationship then focused on the future. Without positive perception of the Liechtensteins by individuals and without places commemorating several centuries of their activity the mutual relations could not have been renewed.
