Description | Nearly 10 % of population suffers from personality disorder (PD). PD is connected with both mental and physical health problems. Health care of PD is demanding not only financially, but also mentally for all involved. PD is not an illness as such and its treatment is difficult. Pharmacotherapy can help reduce accompanying symptomatology, but cannot address personal deficits. Psychotherapy can help to mature some aspects of the personality, but no treatment can result in remission of PD. Despite of that, patients still encounter lack of understanding for their condition. Better understanding of DP can help to a health worker in non-psychiatric health care to understand better a patient with PD and avoid stigmatization and reach for better cooperation. |
