Description | In connection with the anniversary of the death of the Bohemian reformer Jan Hus at the Council of Constance in 1415, two events took place at the Central European University in Budapest. On Monday, June 1, a travelling exhibition “Jan Hus 600” organized by the Czech Center, Budapest, was opened by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Juraj Chmiel, and Petra Mutlová (Masaryk University, Brno). János Bak spoke on behalf of the Medieval Central Europe Research Network that co-organized the event. A workshop on “Jan Hus, 1415–2015: His Times and Impact” followed on Thursday, June 4, including a roundtable discussion led by Gábor Klaniczay. In it, several issues were debated: the present state of scholarship on Hus and his literary legacy, linguistic aspects of Hus’s reforms, the legacy of Hus’s followers as well as the legacy and symbolic significance of Hus in the early stage of the Reformation. |
