Description Parasitism is one of the most popular life strategies among living organisms. We can differ between ectoparasites living on the surface of the host and endoparasites inhabiting internal organs. Parasites from genus Dactylogyrus can be usually found feeding on gills of the freshwater fish. High species richness of this genus is result of high diversity of cyprinid fish which are common host for Dactylogyrus. During our investigation in Balkan Peninsula we collected parasitological material from 36 different cyprinid host species. Representatives of Monogenea, Digenea, Cestoda, Acanthocephala and Crustacea were recorded. 3302 Dactylogyrus specimens were identified into species on basis of morphological characters and molecular sequences. Of total 37 Dactylogyrus species 11 were identified as new species for science.
