Description | The study responds to current trends interconnecting topics of positive psychology and health psychology. The aim of the study was to explore the relationships of positive mental health to health-promoting behavior and perceived social support. Research sample consists of 1363 Czech respondents (68% females, 32% males, aged between 20 and 65). We used The Health-Promoting Behavior Scale, Mental Health Continuum-SF, Scale of Social Support, and Scale for Subjective Evaluation of Health Problem. The online data collection took place in 2014-2015, SPSS was used for data analysis. Results: The correlation analysis revealed significant relationships between Mental health and frequency of reported health problems (r=-.277; p<0.001). The component Emotional well-being was closely associated with less health issues (r = -.31; p < 0.001). Correlation analysis disclosed Maintaining mental well-being ((r = -.36; p<0.001) and Regular daily routine (r = -.218; p<0.001) as significant correlates of worse subjective health. Positive significant relationship was revealed also between positive mental health and social support (r = .39; p < 0.001). The results highlight the positive effect of health-promoting behavior both on physical health and mental health. The study was part of the project GA ČR GA13-19808S. |
