Description | Interest in Moravian wolves recently increased due to the identification of purported domestic dogs from the site of Předmostí (c. 32,500-29,000 cal BP) in the Moravian Corridor, based on morphological and dietary isotopic variation. However, these identifications lead to a wider discussion with researchers who argue there is not enough information available to make a convincing identification of domesticated dog. For this purpose, we would like to discuss here first the historical context of this debate, which has been ongoing in the Czech literature for more than 100 years; and followed by morphological description and population variation of large canids at Dolní Věstonice II. |
