| Description | For many Slavic languages the definition of what constituted the literary or standardized language early in its history. This issue of when to speak of the existence of the Russian literary language as a separate language is also the subject of dispute. The Moscow Slavic scholar N. I. Tolstoy examined this issue and formulated two theories, which clearly resolve these issues. |
