Description One of the factors influencing the quality of education is teacher shortage, caused, among other factors, also by an increasing rate of attrition of qualified teachers who drop-out from teaching profession or from their schools. The most vulnerable professional group are novice teachers. The text offers a literature review of studies focusing on novice teacher drop-out in different cultural contexts. The analysis of the studies aimed at (1) rate of novice teacher drop-out and (2) factors that cause drop-out, especially contextual variables, so-called objective determinants of teacher career path. The results can be informative for Czech experts, educational research and educational policy that have not paid too much attention to drop-out so far. The aim of the text is to initiate professional discussion and research concerning novice teacher drop-out in the Czech Republic.
