Description | Worldwide Dutch is spoken by approximately 24 million people, of whom 6.5 million live in Belgium. How does this variety of Dutch, spoken in Flanders and Brussels and often referred to as Flemish, compare to Dutch in the Netherlands? In order to answer this question, Dutch speaking Belgian lecturer Sofie Royeaerd gives a general account of the language situation in Belgium and Flanders in particular and discusses the different varieties of Dutch in Belgium. |
