Description In this study we use Two-stage Data Envelopment Analysis (2SDEA) to evaluate the efficiency of more than 400 Czech municipalities in the area of municipal solid waste management during the period 2010-2012 with the goal of identifying potential efficiency factors in this area. In the first stage we use a model with one input represented by expenditures on solid waste management and multiple outputs, namely population, number of dwellings, serviced area and percentage of separated waste. In the second stage of the analysis we regress computed DEA efficiency scores on a set of municipal operational characteristics in order to identify their relevance on the efficiency. As statistically significant variables we have identified presence of trash bin evidence, presence of a civic amenity site, incentive program for waste separation and share of dwellings in apartment houses.
