Description | The Dolní Morava Biosphere Reserve is located in the southeast corner of the Czech Republic. The study area includes a narrow belt of floodplain habitats along the lowest parts of the Dyje and Morava rivers, with the area of about 124 km2. The introductory chapters provide basic information on the geomorphology, climate and zoogeographical relationships, anthropogenic influences, historical changes of the floodplain forest, general issues of conservation of invertebrates in the area, important habitats (floodplain forests, wetlands, stagnant and running water, meadows, drier sandbanks, shrubs, forest edges, river banks, and dying trees), and criteria for the individual categories of endangerment. The following red list of threatened invertebrate species of this area is ordered systematically. Altogether, the list includes 769 species, 18 of them ranked as regionally extinct, 141 critically endangered, 205 endangered, 301 vulnerable and 104 near threatened. Regarding legally protected species in the Czech Republic (Regulation No. 395/1992), 83 of them were recorded (2 as regionally extinct, 17 critically endangered, 17 endangered, 11 vulnerable, 2 near threatened and 34 in the category of least concern). Furthermore, 2 species of European importance (Regulation No. 166/2005) were registered. All of species registered, appointed in the national red list or under legal protection in the Czech Republic (both regulations), which are not endangered in the area (128 species), are listed in the category of least concern here. Fact sheets with concise data on morphology, biology, habitat, distribution, occurrence in the area, possible endangerment and protection are processed for 100 selected species. These characteristics are accompanied by photos of adults (living or prepared specimens), and as needed by photos of preimaginal stages, host plants, presence symptoms (larval corridors, exit holes), and habitats. |
