Description | The subject of this study is an article of Egon Erwin Kisch “Novel? No. A reportage” published in the weekly magazine Čin (1929), in which the author denies a future to novels as a literary genre and predicts its replacement by reportage. Many answers of Czech writers to Kisch provocative opinions present a unique probe of the contemporary views on the reportage and show an inadequate awareness of the genre of reportage in the Czech literary environment in the 20th century during the twenties and the thirties. It also demonstrates how difficult it was for Czech writers, especially for the older generation, to cope with the understanding of the reportage as part of high Literature. |
