Description | Colorectal cancer screening in Europe and in its 16-year history in the Czech Republic, went through the development towards higher performance and quality. The involvement of general practitioners in Europe varies according to screening organization and health policy in respective countries. The Czech Republic belongs to countries, where general practitioners play a crucial role in screening. In 2014, in the mode of address inviting, the program has reached on a national scale coverage in the age group 50-69 years 36.6% and revealed 959 carcinomas. The future development of screening in the Czech Republic includes challenges, such as sustainability of address inviting, further participation increase, standardisation of immunochemical tests on the optimal cut-off and increased capacity of colonoscopy. Moreover, a high level of knowledge, competence and communication skills concerning screening are expected from the Czech general practitioners. |
