| Description | The paper examines the notion of party systems and the concept of polarized pluralism developed by G. Sartori. A special attention is paid to the application of the concept of polarized pluralism to the Italian case. The author argues that a thorough critical analysis of Sartori's typology is needed in order to overcome inconsistencies in the usage of Sartorian categories, first of all with regard to the proper distinguishing between party systems and political systems. |
