Description | This paper analyses, using the case study approach, the effectivity of the current structure of the Master Sport Management study programme and teaching and learning strategies that are applied in sports management studies in order to equip students with leadership skills. The students’ assignments analysis using the Atlas .ti software with the purpose of identifying their perception of the leadership concept in sport management after completing the core subjects of sport management studies!was!supplemented by graduates’ opinions with regard to the acquisition of leadership skills. Based on this analysis the reflection in terms of the appropriateness of the educational models currently used has been conducted. Findings indicate that the current structure of the study programme, as well as teaching and learning methods, should focus on the classification of different leadership situations and cases which are present in a variety of sport organizations (public, professional, non- profit) in the sport sector. The model for leading the changes in sport management programmes so to enhance the leadership spirit of students is suggested. The effectiveness of leadership education in sport can be also significantly improved by allowing students to spend sufficient time in elaborating the innovative approaches when resolving leadership issues, challenges and dilemmas. |
