Description | Bell Beaker Culture necropolis was found near the village Hoštice za Hanou in 2002. Women's and children's skeletons from this area were characterized by a high frequency of occurrence porotic hyperostosis (PH) and cribra orbitalia (CO). These pathologies are often associated with anemia. Anemia caused by malnutrition in this population was excluded; therefore it has been tested incidence of sickle cell allele as an alternative cause. Fluorescently labeled TaqMan® probes were designed for detection of SNPs rs334. Allelic discrimination was successful; wild type allele was detected in 14 of the 16 samples. Mutant allele was detected only in positive plasmid controls. Sickle cell anemia did not cause porotic hyperostosis and cribra orbitalia in population from Hoštice I za Hanou. |
