Description A conference lecture: The contribution deals with the problem of misconceptions at 8th grade primary school students in selected aspects inorganic chemistry. The most common research methods used for diagnosing misconceptions and preconceptions are the main content of the contribution (for example three-tier didactic test, questionnaires, interviews or analysis of student´s drawing). Research part of the contribution contains the results of a pilot study. The aim of the pilot study is mapping the most common misconceptions associated with oxygen. We applied three-tier didactic test. Answers of respondents are evaluated by Cronbach´s alpha. Respondents have a deficiency of knowledge about oxygen. They cannot distinguish between the density of oxygen and density of air. Respondents also cannot identify O3 molecule of oxygen (ozone). Correction of the misconceptions is very important part of the educational process. It is the aim of this process.
