Description | Here we present complex comparison of several approaches suggested for further in-situ LIBS analysis of liquid suspensions. The in-situ LIBS analysis of suspensions is still a challenging task due to complications related to poor shot-to-shot repeatability when compared to the LIBS analysis of solids. This is attributed mainly to laser-matter coupling and instability of analyzed liquid surface position, and partially to sample inhomogeneity. There are several approaches conventionally used for direct analyses of suspensions such as the analysis of static liquid bulk, liquid jet, droplets, or aerosols. These approaches enable direct analysis applicable to e.g. online monitoring of industrial processes, analysis of contaminated waters etc., but they suffer mainly from high fluctuations in detected signal and moderate limits of detection. Additionally, indirect way of suspensions analysis can be done after drying and/or deposition on a filter. In this study the optimization of most feasible methodological approach was based on following significant parameters: volume of suspension needed for the analysis, limits of detection (in respect to selected toxic and heavy metals), repeatability of shot-to-shot analysis (relative standard deviation), sample preparation time, and total time of analysis. |
