Description | This chapter deals with the commemorative weekend in Constance marking the 600th death anniversary of Jan Hus, who was condemned as heretic and burned during the Council of Constance. This event can be characterized as hybrid in multiple ways: As festive celebration fusing mourning and conviviality; as bilingual event, not only characterized by the parallel use of German and Czech, but also by various processes of translation and appropriation; finally, as melting pot and social arena, where different functional logics, religious and secular, local and national discourses competed and fused with each other - thus creating new form of event. |
