Description The article argues that underlying this Christian vision of politics is specific social ontology and unique anthropology. In its first part, following mainly the work of an American Thomist Russell Hittinger, the article shows how this specific social ontology is inherent to Catholic social doctrine. It discusses the catholic understanding of group personality and civil society in contradistinction to liberal thought. In its second part, pace to the political experience of the richest Italian region Lombardy, the article delineates the specific anthropological vision, which has influenced different policies of the so-called Lombardy-model. Contrary to both liberalism, and statism, the theoreticians of Lombardy have emphasized positive anthropology of human being. Consequently, in its (social, health-care, educational) policies, Lombardy tries to respect the plurality of social forms which we can find in society. The article shows how one of the fundamental principles of Social doctrine of the Church, the principle of subsidiarity, can become the basis of several political experiments of Lombardy government.
