Description | The main aim of this contribution is to describe the whole life cycle of pottery from the Sutny LBK settlement at Těšetice-Kyjovice (CZ). We investigate the choice of ceramic raw material and its preparation, forming techniques, surface treatments and firing conditions of the pottery. Furthermore we explore the relation between technological characteristics and its possible usage (e.g. cooking or storage). Lastly we are interested in the scale and the mode of local pottery production and the representation of non-local production. Primarily we described the pottery macroscopically and we applied the sampling strategy based on different chronological contexts and households. We used the ceramic micropetrography for fabric grouping determination, technological and provenience analyses. We also applied instrumental analytical methods (e.g. MS, TEM) for the analysis of decoration supplements. Technological properties were also evaluated by the porosity, the permeability and the thermal shock analyses. Analytic data were compared with the fabric groups and macroscopic description by return. We detected significant variability in the fabric groups. Different fabric groups were related to different technological characteristics and to different usage of vessels. We also discovered some vessel reparation evidences and origin supplements of incised decoration on the vessels, which provided to them entirely different outward than in the form in which they were preserved. Unexpected amount of non-local pottery predicates the economic and the social relations in the beginning of Neolithic in this region. |
