Description | The conference is a part of the Ideal: Zlín project carried out by the National Technical Museum in partnership with the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University. The project aims to provide a deeper understanding of the socio-cultural, political and economic changes that the company town of Zlín went through during the turbulent 20th century, i.e. in an era of social, economic and political transformation and successive regime changes. Nevertheless, the research team is not only interested in Zlín as a reflection of significant historical events, but also as a place where the inhabitants live their everyday lives and often witness great historic moments as passers-by. This one-day conference aims to discuss the transformations of the city of Zlín as well as those of other company and industrial towns in the context of their historical changes and their current situations. We will also focus on the way the academic research enters the field of public discussion and the question of whether scholars manage to influence the public discussion as much as they hope to. |
