Description Extraesophageal reflux (EER) is a condition where reflux is passed over the upper esophageal sphincter into the cavity area mouth, pharynx, upper and lower airways, where it can cause mucosal damage. Results studies suggest that damage caused by EER is not only due to an acidic environment but also to pepsin and bile acids. Commercially, a new test is available in the Czech Republic to analyze the presence of pepsin in saliva (Peptest, RD Biomed).
