Description Although many aspects of the Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathogenesis remain hidden together with an effective treatment, number of possible drug targets, including ß-secretase (BACE1), were identified. BACE1 is the rate limiting enzyme in the creation of amyloid plaques – one of the AD hallmarks. Thus, specific inhibition of BACE1 is believed to slow down or even stop the AD. Current drug development demands for fast, cost-effective, reliable and high-throughput analytical tools. Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is an separational method, which meets these criteria. Online hyphenation to immobilized enzyme reactor (IMER) extends its benefits thanks to reuse of the target enzyme and easy automation.
