| Description | The paper aims at presenting standardized language testing as a sophisticated system and instrument for measuring language proficiency whose implementation represents a challenging process for various stakeholders: coordinators, item writers, test specifications developers, assessors of productive skills, people in charge of developing and validating rating scales, standard-setting and benchmarking panellists, tester-trainers, evaluators and validators. The author´s active participation in implementing standardized testing in several testing contexts (ranging from STANAG 6001 testing system in the Czech armed forces to assessing languages for specific and academic purposes in higher education) enables her to identify those aspects of the implementation process that might pose a potential threat to its success. |
