Description | According to the latest and most comprehensive Colombian national study dedicated to children recruited and used in the Colombian armed conflict, nearly 17 thousand of cases were documented from 1960 to 2016. The first law that called for the assistance for such minors was adopted in 1997 and since then this issue has formed an inherent part of government policies. In 1999 the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF) launched its specialized programme that provides an integral attention to disengaged children oriented at the restoration of their violated rights. After reaching the age of 18, they can continue their reintegration process within the programme run by the Agency for Reincorporation and Normalization (ARN), responsible for the assistance for demobilized adults. |
