Description | The conference abstract is concerned with Estonian construction such as sügis on kiire tulema ("autumn is quick to come"), in which the subject is typically inanimate and non-agentive, followed by an adjective such as kiire ("quick"), kerge ("easy"), raske ("difficult") or visa ("persistent") and MA-infinitive of a verb typically quite schematic in meaning (such as tulema "to come", tekkima "to come into being"). I analyze this construction as a subschema (a variant) of a more schematic construction in which subject is characterized by adjective and MA-infinitive. |
