Description | Pavlov (Břeclav District), Pavlov I. In February 2017, a small rescue excavation of an area measuring 55 × 130 cm was realized in the Archeopark Pavlov building due to the installation of a new footbridge inside an “in situ” exhibition of a mammoth bone deposit (Fig. 3). Throughout the excavated area, an archaeological context analogous to the context captured by the previous excavation in 2014 (Svoboda et al.2016a) continued. A Gravettian cultural layer with-out a more precise micro-stratigraphic subdivision and situated at the base of a Last Glacial Maximum loess (Fig. 4), furnished animal bones of extra-large, large and medium-sized mammals, preserved mostly as various fragments (Tab. 1; Fig. 5). A small number of knapped lithics (41 pcs.) made from erratic flint, hornstone and radiolarite were also recovered. The assemblage includes chips (24 pcs.), flakes (8 pcs.), blade and micro-blade fragments (5 pcs.), a single-platform micro-core (Fig. 6: 1) and three retouched artefacts– an angular dihedral burin (Fig. 6: 2) and two partially retouched blades (Fig. 6: 3, 4). The excavation also yielded several pieces of ocher mineral dye, tiny fragments of fossil mollusc shells and charcoal. |
